Destination: Loreto, Mexico

Mexico MapIt’s less than a month until our Mexico vacation; I’m officially letting myself begin the countdown.  I might even put a counter over on the sidebar, something to help me through these rainy, quickly darkening days.

I’ve been to places on my own and with just Jonah, they usually included visiting someone, being on someone else’s schedule.  I’m not complaining!  I love having friends and family all over the country, gives us a great excuse to explore.  There’s just something different about going on vacation, just to be on vacation.  This vacation feels to me like my first adult trip.

Jonah’s 30th and Harper’s 1st birthdays seemed like the best time for something special.  (It’s true!  Jonah and Harper share a birthday, October 6th).  When deciding on a destination, we were very specific: sun, water, and somewhere we could cash our Alaska Airlines companion fare instead of paying full price.  Having to pick between Hawaii, Southern California, and Mexico was pretty easy, Mexico was cheaper.  Picking a destination in Mexico was super easy too, Loreto was the most direct route I could find (that also included a beach).  Volia!

Anyone out there been to Loreto before?

What’s a must see?

  1. It’s going to be such a nice time! And nice to have some sun to look forward to!

  2. When Jim was researching for our honeymoon, he Googled “Mexico, beach, cheap beer.” We ended going to Holbox Island just north of the Yucatan Peninsula. It was awesome. No one to answer to, no one’s schedule to abide by, just us and the beach and the cheap beer. You will have a great time! What a fun time to travel with Harper, too!

  3. Jessyka, my wife and I have lived here in Loreto for 8 years. We moved here from San Diego, expecting to stay maybe 2 years… we are hooked… love Loreto! Above all, Loreto is about the outdoors and active lifestyle… this is nothing like Cabo San Lucas, or any other larger city in Mexico. Quiet, peaceful, and the friendliest people you will ever meet. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to send a note. We know everyone in town, and we know all the fun things to do.
